Version 1.0 · Effective October 15, 2026

Contents

Article 1 (Scope and seller)

  1. These terms apply when a person who lives in Japan, or in one of the countries we serve (the United States, Canada, Australia, Singapore and Malaysia) ("you"), buys paid services (paid plans, passes and top-up points; the same applies below) from Wawa Technology K.K. ("we" or "us").
  2. The seller of the paid services is Wawa Technology K.K. (Qualified Invoice Issuer registration number T4330001031973).
  3. Sales to people who live in Taiwan are made by 哇哇科技股份有限公司 under its own Purchase Terms (TWD).
  4. Matters not covered here are governed by the Terms of Service. If these terms and the Terms of Service differ, these terms prevail for purchases, payments, points and refunds.

Article 2 (Declaring where you live)

  1. When you buy, you must accurately declare the country or region where you currently live. In addition to your declaration, we check and record the country or region estimated from your IP address and the country that issued your card.
  2. You cannot change the declared country or region while a paid period is active. If you want to change it, declare it again after the paid period ends.
  3. If your declaration turns out to be untrue, we may cancel the contract and refund the amount paid minus the portion already used.
  4. We do not sell paid services to people who live in mainland China, Hong Kong, Macau, the European Union or European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, South Korea, or any other country or region not listed in Article 1(1).

Article 3 (Paid services)

  1. The types, prices and points of paid services are shown in Appendix 1 and on the Plans page.
    • Monthly and yearly plans: continuing contracts that renew automatically (no fixed contract term).
    • 60-day pass: paid once; does not renew. If you buy it during an active plan or pass, it starts when that one ends.
    • Top-up points: paid once; available to people with an active plan or pass.
  2. The features of each plan are shown on the Plans page; daily limits are set out in Appendix 3 and also shown on the Plans page.

Article 4 (Formation of the contract)

  1. You apply on the payment screen (the final confirmation screen) after checking the product, price, whether it renews automatically, how to cancel and the refund rules. The contract is formed when payment is completed.
  2. You can withdraw your application before payment is completed by closing the payment screen.
  3. After the contract is formed, we email you a confirmation describing the contract and how to cancel.

Article 5 (Prices and payment)

  1. Prices for people living in Japan are shown in Japanese yen including consumption tax. Prices for people living in the countries we serve are shown in US dollars and do not include Japanese consumption tax. If tax applies under the laws of where you live, it is shown on the payment screen.
  2. You can pay by credit card (including debit and prepaid cards) or any other method shown on the payment screen. Payments are processed by Stripe, our payment processor. Your card number is not stored on our servers.
  3. When you pay:
    • Monthly and yearly plans: at sign-up, then automatically on each renewal date.
    • 60-day pass and top-up points: at purchase.
  4. Internet connection and other communication charges are your responsibility.

Article 6 (Auto-renewal)

  1. Monthly plans renew every month and yearly plans every year on the renewal date (the same day as your first payment, or the last day of the month if that day does not exist), on the same conditions, and the fee is charged to your registered payment method.
  2. Before a yearly plan renews, we email you the renewal date and amount.
  3. If we change a price, we email you at least 30 days before the first renewal date at the new price. If you do not agree, cancel by the day before that renewal date.

Article 7 (Cancellation)

  1. You can cancel online at any time with the "Manage subscription" button on your account's billing page (https://kotodo.jp/billing). We also accept cancellation by email (max@wowwow.tw).
  2. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current period, and you can keep using the paid services until then. To stop the next renewal, complete cancellation by the day before the next renewal date.
  3. You will not be charged after cancellation takes effect.

Article 8 (Refunds and cancellations)

  1. Paid services are digital services that start immediately after payment and are not subject to the cooling-off period under Japan's Act on Specified Commercial Transactions.
  2. Monthly plans: the fee for the current period is not refunded. After cancelling, you can use the plan until the end of the current period.
  3. Yearly plans: if you ask to end the contract partway through, we refund the yearly fee paid minus (the number of months elapsed, including the month of your request, × the monthly price of the same plan), and the contract ends at the time of your request. If that deduction is equal to or more than the yearly fee, no refund is made. You may instead stop only the auto-renewal and use the plan until the end of the term, with no refund.
  4. 60-day passes and top-up points: because they are provided immediately after payment, we do not give refunds for reasons of your own convenience.
  5. Notwithstanding the above, we refund the applicable amount for duplicate payments, when we cannot provide paid services for reasons attributable to us, or when a refund is required by law.
  6. Refunds are, as a rule, made to the original payment method. We do not deduct payment processing fees from refunds. We issue a refund statement (a return invoice) for each refund.
  7. When a contract ends because of a refund, unused points granted under that contract expire.

Article 9 (Points)

  1. Points measure your use of features that involve AI processing, such as page scans, questions about a page, questions to Sensei, writing checks, lessons and reading new text aloud.
  2. Plan points: monthly and yearly plans grant the points in Appendix 1 on each monthly renewal date (for yearly plans, on the same day each month). Plan points are a monthly allowance and do not carry over to the next month.
  3. 60-day pass points: granted all at once when the pass starts and valid until the pass ends (if you buy a pass during an active plan or pass, it starts when that one ends).
  4. Top-up points: granted at payment and valid for 90 days from the grant.
  5. Points that expire sooner are used first.
  6. When you use a feature, the maximum points in Appendix 2 are held temporarily; after use, the actual usage is settled and the difference is returned. The points actually deducted never exceed the maximum. Even if your balance is short, features with a maximum of 18 points or fewer still work, and the shortfall is deducted from your next grant.
  7. To prevent abuse and keep the service reliable, each plan's daily usage limits are set out in Appendix 3 and also shown on the Plans page (they reset every day at 00:00 UTC). We may also set a reasonable limit on simultaneous lessons.
  8. Points cannot be exchanged for cash and cannot be transferred, lent or moved to another account. When a paid contract ends, that plan's points expire.
  9. If we raise a maximum in Appendix 2 or lower a limit in Appendix 3, we announce it in the service and email you at least 30 days before it takes effect. If you do not agree, you can end the contract by telling us before the effective date, and we refund the unused part of what you paid, calculated by day. Lower maximums and higher limits apply immediately.

Article 10 (Minors)

  1. If you are under 18, buy only with the consent of a parent or other legal guardian. Before payment we confirm your age and, if you are under 18, your guardian's consent.
  2. A contract made by a minor without a guardian's consent may be rescinded under Article 5 of the Civil Code of Japan, except where the minor falsely claimed to be an adult or to have the guardian's consent (Article 21 of the Civil Code).

Article 11 (Failed payments)

If payment fails on a renewal date, we retry during a 7-day grace period. No new points are granted during the grace period. If payment is not completed within the grace period, the plan is treated as cancelled.

Article 12 (Payment disputes)

If you file a payment dispute (chargeback) with your card issuer, we may suspend the paid services under that contract and take back granted points until the matter is resolved.

Article 13 (Receipts and qualified invoices)

We issue an electronic receipt (a qualified invoice if you have registered an addressee name) for each payment and refund, which you can download from your account's billing page (https://kotodo.jp/billing).

Article 14 (Residents of the United States)

If you live in the United States, we obtain your express consent to auto-renewal at checkout and email you a confirmation describing the contract and how to cancel. Renewal notices for yearly plans and online cancellation follow Articles 6 and 7.

Article 15 (Changes to these terms)

We may change these terms under Article 548-4 of the Civil Code of Japan. If we do, we announce the new content and its effective date in the service and email you at least 30 days before it takes effect. Changes unfavorable to you do not apply to periods you have already paid for, except that changes under Article 9(9) follow that paragraph.

Article 16 (Governing law and jurisdiction)

  1. These terms are governed by the laws of Japan.
  2. The Kumamoto District Court has exclusive agreed jurisdiction as the court of first instance for disputes about these terms. This does not limit the jurisdictional rights that consumers have under law.
  3. If mandatory consumer protection laws of the place where you live apply to you outside Japan, these terms do not exclude them.

Article 17 (Language)

The Japanese version of these terms is the original. Translations are provided for reference only; if they differ from the Japanese version, the Japanese version prevails.

Appendix 1: Plans and prices

People living in Japan (JPY, including consumption tax)

People living in the countries we serve (USD)

Appendix 2: Points price list (maximum points per action)

Points actually deducted are settled by usage and never exceed this table. Points for actions that fail or do not finish are returned in full. Typical point costs are shown on the Plans page.

Appendix 3: Daily limits

The table shows how many times you can use each action per day (page scans count pages). Limits reset every day at 00:00 UTC. "Not included" means the plan cannot use that feature. A 60-day pass follows the column for its type.
